June 28th we traveled from Houston to New Orleans. I have to tell you that I was so excited to finally be going to New Orleans! The ride from Houston was interesting. There were lots of refineries in TX on Hwy 10. Then the geography changed and it was an amazing transformation. The surrounding area was lush and green... it was a beautiful ride once we left the oil business behind:)
There were lots of areas where Hwy 10 was built over water, kind of like the highway from Miami to Key West. I was excited to see my first ever swamp (see below) and of course, to see the Mississippi River (also below)!
We got settled into our campground and immediately headed for the pool... it was a slick set up, with a waterfall into a lower pool, as well as a hot tub. There was also a bar area adjacent to the pool. We kicked back there for quite a while and met some really nice people.
Once we had dinner, we settled the boys in for the night and then took the campground shuttle to the French Quarter. Oh my goodness... I couldn't believe the action there. It was as busy as the New Year's Eve we spent in Key West for Y2K. Party central! I'm sure I walked around Bourbon Street with my mouth hanging open... there was so much to look at. I can't even imagine what this area must be like for Mardi Gras. Definitely on my bucket list.
I indulged in a hurricaine... and we listened to jazz music at a European club. Very enjoyable. Then we walked around and just people watched. It was a very memorable evening, for sure!
